Mary Shelley´s Frankestein Project Work in the EFL- Classroom

This school year 2014-15, we made a project work  in Practical English, an optional subject in 2nd “Bachillerat”, the last year of  Post-Compulsory Secondary Education.
First, the students read a graded reader “Fankestein” by Mary Shelley. We chose  the reader from Burlington Books, Activity Series  because there, we could find  a lot of activities to work  on each of the chapters and students could also listen to the audios and read some literature articles at home by clicking on this link:

Next, they watched the film Mary Shelley´s  Frankestein , directed by Kenneth Branagh.
If you like, you can read some more information about the film in this Wikipedia website:

Then, they read the film script which we could find here:

Afterwards, they wrote their own script in order to film their own  movie adapted from the original one. Once they finished writing their script, they rehearsed and filmed the scenes.
Finally they turned their own videos into a short movie with Windows Movie Maker.

The most important  is that they enjoyed very much the activity they were doing and at the same time they were learning English in an easy way. They practised the four skills and had lots of fun.

At the end of the School Year they wrote an article about this project for the High School Magazine.  Here is the article where you can read about their experience:

FILMING A NEW PROJECT

This year in our high school Manuel Sanchis Guarner, we made a project related to horror films. The students of practical English of 2nd BAT found this project very interesting in order to make a funny, didactic and different activity.

After reading the book “Frankenstein” by Mary Shelley and watching the film directed by Kenneth Branagh we decided to participate in the project filming different scenes from the film. At first, we thought it was a challenge, but little by  little we achieved  to make the project willingly and enthusiastically.
We are very proud of the result and we realized that we had real actors among us. Then, all the time we spent working in this project was worthwhile.
As a conclusion, this has been one of the best projects that we have ever made.
